- Can I watch SimWorkshops videos using Windows Media or Quick time?
No, the default player for SimWorkshops multimedia streaming video is RealOne. If
you've tried to use another streaming client it will not work. Download and
install the RealOne player.
- Does it make a difference which operating system I use for streaming video?
Operating systems that work are Mac OS-X or OS-9 and Windows 98,
NT, ME, 2000, or XP
.
- Which Real player version do I need to install?
Real
One basic, the free player the one you need to install. There is
no cost to download and run it on either a Mac or PC.
- How do I install RealOne Player on my computer?
Download and follow self guided process. We recommend that you choose
the "basic" setup rather than "normal" procedure
and complete the registration process to avoid unnecessary pop-ups
and product news.

- How can I watch the videos at a slower or faster playback rate?
If you are watching videos in the FLRC computer room you may have
noticed a 2XAV popup window with the Real player. It can increase or slow
down
the speed of playback without the "chipmunk effect". To get
the 2XAV plug in for your personal machines download, try and purchase
a key
from Enounce,
Inc.
- Can I bookmark videos in Real player?
Yes, while watching the clip in Real player, click on "Favorites- Add
Clip"
- How can I see what the Title and date of a video is?
Click on "File-Clip properties - view clip info" or use ctrl +
I shortcut.
- Why do I hear no sound when I play files with RealOne Player?
Volume on Real player is muted or set to low. Overall sound volume on computer
is muted or too low.
- Why can't I save the video files in my computer's local storage?
The videos can be streamed but not recorded or saved because of copyrights.
- Why does
player slow down after 1 minute of normal playing?
If this happens outside of the FLRC computer lab, then you can correct
the problem by opening Real player preferences menu
(under TOOLS menu). You will have to manually
configure the network transport by
changing the each of the transport protocols (RTSP and PNA) to UDP or TCP.
- How can I prevent the "communicating" message
from appearing?
The Real player preferences for clip buffer time could need to be
set higher than 30 seconds. The transport protocol is not set to UDP or the
connection
speed preference is set too low. Open the Tools menu,
select Preferences, select Connection and perform test
connection.
- How can I tell if playback is being affected by high network traffic?
Open the Tools menu in Real player and
click on Playback statistics. Look at the bandwidth tab to monitor your connectivity
with the network. It should be relatively
high 80% to 90%.
- What can I do to make
Windows XP stop displaying "communicating" message?
Check Real player preferences for network transport settings and manually
configure both RTSP and PNA for UDP and TCP only.
- How can I test whether if have my player configured correctly?
